Helpful information about cremation in Montana

Montana law states that a death certificate must be filed with the local registrar within ten days. (Administrative Rules of Montana § 37.8.801.)  It is usually the mortuary, cremation organization, or other person in charge of the deceased’s remains that prepares and files the death certificate.

If you need to order copies of a death certificate after the fact, visit Montana Department of Public Health & Human Services. From the there, you can download a mail-in order form or find info for ordering death certificates by phone or online.
