Helpful information about cremation in New Hampshire

New Hampshire law requires that a death be registered with the Division of Vital Records Administration within 36 hours and before final disposition of the body. (New Hampshire Statutes § 5-C:62.)  It is usually the mortuary, cremation organization, or other person in charge of the deceased person’s remains that prepares and files the death certificate.

If you need copies of a death certificate after the fact, visit New Hampshire Division of Vital Records Administration. The DVRA website will provide you with instructions for ordering death certificates by mail.
