Helpful information about cremation in New Mexico

New Mexico law states that a death certificate must be filed with the local registrar within five days of death. (New Mexico Statutes § 24-14-20.)  It is usually the mortuary, cremation organization, or other person in charge of the deceased’s remains that prepares and files the death certificate.

If you need copies of the death certificate later, visit New Mexico Department of Health. From the DOH website, you can download the mail-in order form or can order death certificates online.
