Helpful information about cremation in Ohio

Ohio law requires that a death be reported to the local registrar of vital statistics. The funeral director or person acting as such must present the death certificate to a medical professional, who has 48 hours to complete the certificate and return it. (Ohio Revised Code § 3705.16.) The funeral director of other person in charge of the body can then file the certificate with the registrar.

If you need copies of the death certificate at a later time, go to the website of the Ohio Department of Health. From the ODH website, you can download a mail-in order form or find infor for ordering death certificates online or in person.
