Helpful information about cremation in South Carolina
In 2012, the South Carolina passed a law requiring funeral homes and medical certifiers to complete, certify and file death certificates electronically. Death certificates are filed within a few days of death by the funeral director or person acting as such. The person filing can order you copies for you records at the time of filing.
If you need to order copies of a death certificate at a later time, visit South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, where you can download a mail-in order form or find info about applying for death certificates online, by phone or in-person.
