Helpful information about cremation in Texas

Texas law requires that a death certificate be filed with the local registrar within ten days of the death. (Texas Health & Safety Code § 193.003.)  This is usually filed by the mortuary or cremation organization, and copies for your records can be ordered at time of filing.

If you need to order more copies later, go to Texas Department of State Health Services. The DSHS website allows you to download a mail-in order form or find information for ordering death certificates in-person or online.
